Adam Peaty 12-1 to be Sports Personality of the Year

| 08.08.2016

Adam Peaty has been cut into 12-1 (from 16-1) by leading bookmaker Coral to be the 2016 BBC Sports Personality of the Year after he won gold this morning in the 100m breaststroke and broke his own world record in the final of the event. Andy Murray remains the 13-8 favourite to win the prize for the third time in his career, while Tour De France winner Chris Froome can be backed at 9-1.

After Peaty’s success in the pool, Coral make Great Britain odds-on at 8-13 to win 19 gold medals or more in Rio, while they are 6-5 to land 18 or less. Murray is evens to win gold in the men’s tennis tournament following Novak Djokovic’s surprise exit and Jessica Ennis-Hill is being well backed with Coral at 11-10 to follow up her success in London by winning the women’s heptathlon.

“Adam Peaty’s sensational swim in the final of the 100m breaststroke has prompted a flurry of bets for the world record holder winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award later this year where if successful, he’d be the first swimmer to win the award in 54 years,” said Coral’s John Hill.
