Bournemouth v West Brom betting tips: Promotion hopefuls meet in opener
Preview and odds for Friday’s Championship opener
The first match of the EFL Championship sees the Cherries hosting the Baggies, and we look at the odds for some potential Bournemouth v West Brom betting tips.
Bournemouth finished sixth last season before losing to Brentford in the semi-finals of the playoffs, while West Brom were relegated back to the second tier from the Premier League.
They open their respective EFL Championship campaigns at the Vitality Stadium on Friday, with the game live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm BST.
Bournemouth v West Brom match odds
Former Fulham manager Scott Parker arrived at Bournemouth hoping to achieve promotion after his predecessor Jonathan Woodgate missed out last season.
They are 27/20 to get off to a winning start in the league having already kick-started their campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of MK Dons in the Carabao Cup last weekend.
Bournemouth have not made many big signings, although Leif Davis (on loan from Leeds) and Emiliano Marcondes (Brentford) have arrived.
West Brom could not be saved by Sam Allardyce, who turned down the offer to stay on following relegation. They picked up 38 points and finished 19th, which saw them go down with Fulham and Sheffield United.
Former Barnsley manager Valerien Ismael takes charge and he has brought in the likes of Alex Mowatt (from Barnsley), Matt Clark (on loan from Brighton), and Adam Reach (Sheffield Wednesday).
They have beaten the likes of Woking, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham and were held to a goalless draw by Watford (pictured below) in their pre-season friendlies and are 6/1 second-favourites to win the Championship.
Bournemouth v West Brom head-to-head
The pair have met 21 times since 1955 with Bournemouth winning eight and losing nine, while there have been four draws.
Their last meeting, in March 2018, ended with a 2-1 Premier League home win for Bournemouth.
Six of the last seven meetings saw the game settled by a single-goal margin (the other game was a 1-1 draw), with the Cherries winning four of those clashes.
Six of the last eight meetings saw both sides score and it is 4/5 for that to happen this time.
Bournemouth v West Brom team news
Bournemouth will be without injured Chris Mepham and suspended Jefferson Lerma. Parker will also miss injured Jack Stacey and Steve Cook.
While also likely to be without Ben Pearson, Arnaut Danjuma and Davis, Parker’s side will be far from full strength and West Brom are 8/13 to either win or draw the match in the Double Chance market.
Reach will not be involved for the Baggies, and it is unlikely wantaway midfielder Matheus Pereira will be considered.
Sam Johnstone is set to start in goal, despite being linked with a move, and Albion can be backed to keep a clean sheet in Bournemouth v West Brom betting tips at 13/5 while it is 15/4 for Bournemouth to win but concede.
Bournemouth v West Brom key battles
The return of fans will provide a boost to the hosts and it is worth noting that Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last five home meetings with West Brom.
