Preview and odds for Wednesday’s Champions League qualifiers

The Champions League group phase continues with matchday three so we look at some Champions League betting tips for Wednesday’s games.

Chelsea are the European champions following their win over Manchester City in last season’s final in Porto.

You can read our in-depth betting preview of Chelsea v Malmo but here we preview a trio of Wednesday’s other big Champions League games.

Zenit v Juventus

Zenit St Petersburg and Juventus have only met twice previously – in the 2008-09 Champions League group stage, resulting in a 1-0 win for Juventus in Turin and 0-0 draw in Russia.

The Italians have never lost to a Russian team in eight previous encounters (W7 D1).

The hosts, 13/5 to win, lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their opening Group H game before beating Malmo 4-0 at home in matchday two.

Juventus, who overcame Malmo 3-0 away and Chelsea 1-0 at home, are 11/10 to win, as they have done in their last six games in all competitions, which include Sunday’s 1-0 win over Roma.

After a slow start, that result leaves them eighth in Serie A, 10 points behind leaders Napoli.

Juventus are looking to win their opening three games of a Champions League campaign for the first time since 2018-19 and they have won their last four games in the group stage of the Champions League without conceding a single goal.

It is 13/5 that Juve win to nil while the draw is available at odds of 12/5.

RB Salzburg v Wolfsburg

RB Salzburg seek to go unbeaten in their opening three Champions League games for the first time after drawing at Sevilla and beating Lille 2-1 in their opening two Group G games.

They are also looking to win consecutive games in the competition for the first time and the Austrian side are 6/5 to triumph.

Boasting the youngest average age of any team in the Champions League at 22 years and 312 days, RB Salzburg come into this on the back of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Altach, which keeps them eight points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga after 11 games.

Wolfsburg have drawn both of their games in the Champions League this season (0-0 v Lille and 1-1 v Sevilla) and it is 5/2 they make it a hat-trick of stalemates.

Wolfsburg, who lost 2-0 at Union Berlin on Saturday to leave them sixth in the German Bundesliga and trailing leaders Bayern Munich by six points after eight games, are 9/4 to win this clash.

Though this will be their first meeting, in RB Salzburg’s last four UEFA European competition meetings with German opponents, there have been 21 goals scored (six for, 15 against).

It is 3/5 that both sides score and 8/11 three goals or more will be scored in total in the game.

Lille v Sevilla

Staying in Group G, Lille are 27/10 to beat Sevilla, who are unbeaten in their last eight away games in the Champions League (W3 D5) – the last five of which have come under current boss Julen Lopetegui.

Their last away defeat in the competition came in October 2017, when they were beaten 5-1 by Spartak Moscow under Eduardo Berizzo.

Sevilla have been going well in La Liga, winning 1-0 at Celta Vigo on Sunday to put them third, three points behind Real Sociedad, who have played a game more. Sevilla are 6/5 to win at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Sevilla have lost their two away European matches against Lille, losing both 1-0 in the 2004-05 UEFA Cup group stage and away leg of the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in 2005-06, but Lille have won only two of their previous 13 games against Spanish opposition (D6 L5).

The hosts, winless in seven games since beating Sevilla in 2006 (D2 L5), haven’t scored more than once in any of these previous 13 games – netting just eight goals in total – and are 27/10 to win. The draw is on offer at odds of 11/5.

Lille, who drew 0-0 at home to Wolfsburg and lost 2-1 at Salzburg in their opening two Champions League games, have won just three of 20 home ties in this competition.
