Preview and odds for Wednesday’s Champions League clash

Champions League winners Chelsea continue their defence on Wednesday and we have examined the odds to bring you some Juventus v Chelsea betting tips.

Chelsea upset Manchester City 1-0 to win Europe’s premier club competition last season, while Juventus went out of last season’s competition at the round-of-16 stage at the hands of Porto.

Wednesday’s Group H game takes place at the Allianz Stadium, Turin, and is live on BT Sport 2 with an 8pm kick-off.

Juventus v Chelsea match odds

Juventus defeated Malmo away from home 3-0 on Champions League matchday one.

However, they have faced a sticky start domestically, losing two and drawing two of their six opening Serie A games. Saturday’s 3-2 win over Sampdoria left them training early leaders AC Milan by eight points and they are 16/5 underdogs to beat Chelsea.

That victory over Sampdoria came at a cost. Striker Paulo Dybala will miss Wednesday’s clash after limping off with a thigh injury, and Massimiliano Allegri confirmed that Alvaro Morata will also be sidelined.

Dybala has appeared in all six of the club’s games, scoring three goals and chipping in with three assists.

Morata has scored three goals form those six outings, too. Moise Kean is now likely to step in and lead the line in his absence.

Juventus have won 11 of their last 12 Champions League group stage matches, losing the other 2-0 against Barcelona in October 2020. They have kept seven clean sheets and their last three have all ended 3-0. It is 3/1 that they keep a clean sheet this time.

Chelsea, who saw last season’s beaten finalists Manchester City avenge that defeat with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, have only conceded four goals in 14 Champions League matches since the start of last season (W10 D3 L1), keeping 10 clean sheets and never conceding more than once in a game.

The Blues, who are 19/20 to win the clash, have only lost three of their last 32 Champions League group stage matches (W20 D9), losing none of their last 12 at the group stage (W8 D4).

The draw is on offer at odds of 12/5, while Chelsea are 21/10 to win to nil.

Juventus v Chelsea head-to-head

This will be the fifth meeting between the sides in the Champions League, with both teams recording one win each in the previous four. Juventus won their most recent meeting, recording a 3-0 home victory in the group stage in 2012-13.

Only Real Madrid (11 wins) have recorded more than Juventus (seven) in European Cup/Champions League matches against the reigning champions.

Juve have won four of their five home games against the holders and they are 20/23 to win or draw the game on the Double Chance market in the Juventus v Chelsea betting tips.

Juventus v Chelsea key battles

Results would suggest Chelsea do not appear fond of playing in Italy. They have lost each of their last four away games against Italian opposition in the Champions League.

In contrast, Juventus, who lost to their last English opponents – Manchester United at home – have never lost consecutive home matches to English sides.

Yet Juventus have to get past goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. All 10 of Chelsea’s clean sheets in Europe over the last two seasons have been kept by Mendy in 13 appearances. Chelsea are 7/5 to keep a clean sheet.
