Leeds v Tottenham betting tips: Son could shine again

Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Leeds’ recent exploits caught up with them at the weekend and they now face another in-form side in Tottenham at Elland Road.

Having beaten Manchester City and held Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United during a six-match unbeaten run, Marcelo Bielsa’s side came crashing back down to earth with a poor performance in a 2-0 defeat at Brighton.

Tottenham kept their slim hopes of a Champions League spot alive by hammering rock-bottom Sheffield United and have already enjoyed a victory over Leeds this season.

Leeds are 9/4 to gain revenge for that defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs 11/10 to claim a third consecutive Premier League victory.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 12.30pm and is live on BT Sport.

Leeds v Tottenham Match Odds

Elland Road, Leeds

Leeds’ defensive troubles have been well documented on their return to the top flight, but they have kept goals to a premium against the top sides at Elland Road.

Draws with City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have produced fewer than 2.5 goals in each, with 10 of their 17 home matches going the same way, and a repeat on Saturday is 6/5.

With Leeds determined to respond following their loss on the south coast and seemingly raising their game against the big boys on their home turf, another draw can be backed at 13/5.

While Chelsea and Manchester United’s star-studded attacking line-ups failed to fire, City and Liverpool both went ahead before Leeds responded to claim 1-1 draws.

Spurs have had to settle for draws on seven occasions in the Premier League this season after leading, with Tottenham HT/Draw FT priced at 12/1.

Leeds v Tottenham head-to-head

Spurs beat Leeds in January, with their class in the final third showing during a 3-0 home win following goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Toby Alderweireld.

But Leeds did get the better of Spurs in their last meeting on their home ground, securing a shock 2-1 win in the FA Cup eight years ago.

Kane has not scored since sustaining an ankle injury at Everton, with Son taking on responsibility by netting in his last two matches.

The South Korean is likely to have plenty of joy getting in between Leeds’ lines again and is 5/1 to score first.

Previous XI

Leeds vs Tottenham - Football tactics and formations

Leeds: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Alioski, Koch, Dallas, Klich, Harrison, Roberts, Bamford.

Tottenham: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Alli, Son, Bale, Kane.

Team news

Leeds captain Liam Cooper is back in contention after completing a three-game ban. Kalvin Phillips (knee) and Raphinha (thigh) remain doubtful and will be assessed, while Helder Costa (back) is out for the remainder of the season.

Spurs left-back Ben Davies is still nursing an ankle injury and may not play again this season.  Forward Lucas Moura (knock) and midfielder Tanguy Ndombele (muscle) have both trained all week and will be fit for the clash.

Key battles

Leeds were missing their key two players at Brighton, with Phillips and Raphinha vital to how they perform at both ends of the pitch.

United very rarely win without Phillips and his inclusion will certainly tighten up United’s defence to take on an attacking threat made up of Kane, Son and Gareth Bale, who scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United.

Without Raphinha, Leeds lack pace and service to Patrick Bamford, who has failed to score in his last five matches, meaning they may struggle to trouble Spurs’ flaky defence.
