Manchester City v Chelsea betting tips: Title up for grabs in dress rehearsal

| 08.05.2021

Preview and odds for the Premier League clash

Both teams reached the Champions League final in midweek and have an immediate dress rehearsal in the Premier League on Saturday as Manchester City look to clinch the title.

City eased past Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 on Tuesday and Chelsea beat Real Madrid by the same score 24 hours later to set up an Istanbul showdown later this month.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 5.30pm and is live on Sky Sports. Let’s take a look at the form of both teams to help find the best Manchester City v Chelsea betting tips.

Manchester City v Chelsea match odds

City could have clinched the title last weekend but the postponement of Manchester United’s match against Liverpool means they can do it themselves with a victory, which they are odds-on to do at 19/20.

Chelsea may not have had City’s consistency this season but have been revitalised by Thomas Tuchel and came out on top in last month’s FA Cup semi-final.

They are 10/3 to repeat that success this weekend while the draw is priced up at 23/10.

Chelsea shut out Real Madrid on Wednesday for a fifth clean sheet in six matches and their 19th in 14 weeks since Tuchel took over. They are 29/10 to extend that record this weekend.

Under 2.5 goals has paid out in their last seven games so another cagey contest could be in store, with under 2.5 goals available at 8/13 and under 1.5 goals priced up at 9/5.

There is plenty of attacking talent in both squads though and both teams to score is 19/20 while goals at both ends, over 2.5 goals and either team to win is available in the #YourCall market at 15/8.

Edouard Mendy, Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea

Manchester City v Chelsea head-to-head

City are on the verge of being crowned champions but their quest for an unprecedented quadruple went up in smoke last month when Hakim Ziyech fired Chelsea to a fourth FA Cup final in five years.

Ziyech’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 win at Wembley, where Tuchel secured his first victory against former Bundesliga foe Pep Guardiola, and another 1-0 win this weekend is 9/1.

It was a very different story when the teams met in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge in January, though.

Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne all struck in the first half as City cruised to a 3-1 win, with Callum Hudson-Odoi neatly netting a late consolation for Frank Lampard’s men.

Chelsea have also lost on their last three visits to the Etihad Stadium, including a 6-0 thumping in 2019.

Chelsea: Mendy, Rudiger, Christensen, Silva, Chilwell, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, Mount, Havertz, Werner

Team news

City defender John Stones completes his three-match domestic suspension for his sending off in last month’s win over Aston Villa. There are no new fitness concerns and centre-back Eric Garcia could be available again after illness.

Mateo Kovacic misses out for Chelsea as he continues to battle hamstring trouble.

Key battles

Both managers may opt to rotate their squads after their European exploits in midweek but are not short of options if they choose to make changes.

Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus all came off the bench late on against PSG and Aguero scored a hat-trick in this fixture two seasons ago, with Sterling bagging a brace.

Aguero is the 4/1 favourite in the first goalscorer odds but Chelsea are strong defensively under Tuchel, even if he chooses to bring in the likes of Kurt Zouma or Reece James.

The midfield battle should be enthralling, with England team-mates Mason Mount and Foden in fine form while N’Golo Kante could be tasked with limiting the influence of De Bruyne.
