Newcastle v Tottenham betting tips: Kane bids to break his duck
Preview and odds for Sunday’s Premier League clash
The first game under new ownership sees Newcastle bidding for a first Premier League win of the season and we look at potential Newcastle v Tottenham betting tips.
Steve Bruce fears the sack following a takeover at St James’ Park, as his side are in the bottom three, while Tottenham seek back-to-back wins following their victory over Aston Villa last time.
Sunday’s match, which takes place at St James’ Park, kicks off at 4.30pm and is live on Sky Sports.
Newcastle v Tottenham match odds
Calls for Newcastle to be more expansive this season appear to have been heard yet while the football has improved, results in the Premier League have not.
Newcastle have conceded more goals (16) than any other side in the division and they await their first win of the season (D3 L4).
In fairness to Bruce, he has had some significant injuries to deal with, including missing striker Callum Wilson since August, but he could make his return this weekend.
Newcastle drew 1-1 at home to Leeds and picked up a point at Watford before going down 2-1 at Wolves last time and are 23/10 to beat Tottenham.
This will be Bruce’s 1,000th game as a manager but he has won just four of his 26 previous meetings with Spurs.
The visitors won their opening three games 1-0, but three successive defeats followed. They got back on track last time with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
It is perhaps worth noting that Tottenham have lost just one of their last 18 Premier League games against sides starting the day in the relegation zone (W13 D4), though that defeat did come against Newcastle (1-0 in August 2019), and the visitors are 11/10 to win at St James’ Park.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have lost their last two away league games, going down 3-0 at Crystal Palace and 3-1 at Arsenal. They’ve not conceded three-plus goals in three consecutive away league games since April 2014. It is 13/8 that Newcastle score two or more goals.
Their last two meetings both ended in stalemate and the draw is on offer at 5/2 this time.

Newcastle v Tottenham head-to-head
Newcastle are winless in their last four home league games against Spurs (D1 L3), since winning 5-1 on the final day of the 2015-16 season.
Spurs have won five of the last eight meetings but have conceded in each of their last four meetings and dropped four points from winning positions against the Magpies last season, as Bruce’s side netted 90th and 85th-minute equalisers in the two games to draw.
Seven of the last 11 meetings saw both sides score, and it is 3/5 that both teams net this time.
Newcastle v Tottenham key battles
Harry Kane has yet to score this season. The England skipper is 11/10 to net at any time against Newcastle and five of his six Premier League goals for Tottenham against Newcastle have come at St James’ Park. He is 5/1 to score two or more in the game.
Son Heung-min has been directly involved in four of Spurs’ six Premier League goals so far this season (three goals, one assist), with the other two being a penalty and an own goal. He is 6/4 to score at any time and 4/1 to score the first goal.
