Porto v Liverpool betting tips: Porto bid to break Reds duck
Preview and odds for Tuesday’s Champions League clash
Liverpool travel to Portugal on Tuesday for a Champions League Group B clash so we look at the odds to find some Porto v Liverpool betting tips.
Jurgen Klopp’s side got their campaign off to a great start with a 3-2 win over AC Milan, while Porto gained a point in a goalless draw at Atletico Madrid.
Tuesday’s clash takes place at the Estádio do Dragão and is live on BT Sport 2, with an 8pm kick-off.
Porto v Liverpool match odds
Porto reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season, eventually going out to champions Chelsea after losing the home leg 2-0 before winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
They picked up a valuable point on matchday one and are unbeaten this season, having won seven and drawn two of their Primera Liga matches.
Following Friday’s 2-1 win at Gil Vicente, Porto sit second in the Portuguese top flight behind Benfica.
They are 18/5 to beat Liverpool and don’t concede too many goals at home. Indeed, Porto have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three group stage games at the Estádio do Dragão in the Champions League and are 24/5 to do so here.
Liverpool were also knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage last season, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Real Madrid.
They come into this on the back of a 3-3 Premier League draw at newly-promoted Brentford, but are still yet to lose domestically this season and have scored 15 goals in their six outings.
Liverpool are also unbeaten in their last five away games in the group stage of the Champions League (W4 D1), while they’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their four victories in this run. Their last away defeat in the group stage came back in September 2019, losing 2-0 at Napoli.
Porto v Liverpool head-to-head
Klopp’s side have a great record against Porto, who have faced Liverpool on eight previous occasions in European competition – six of which have been in the Champions League – and are still looking for their first victory against the Reds (D3 L5).
Furthermore, Liverpool have won more games (three), scored more goals (11) and kept more clean sheets (three) against Porto than any other opponent in the competition under Klopp.
Porto have only scored one goal in their four Champions League games against Klopp’s Liverpool (D1 L3), despite attempting 45 shots across these meetings. Liverpool, meanwhile, have netted 11 times from 54 attempts against them in this period.
Porto v Liverpool key battles
The odds suggest that the visitors should take control and the hosts will do well to limit the supply line to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who are Liverpool’s joint-top scorers away from home in the Champions League, with each netting 11 goals.
