Preview and odds for Saturday’s Premier League clash

Newcastle will attempt to gain their first win of the season when they travel to Vicarage Road so we look at the odds to find some Watford v Newcastle betting tips.

Watford gained their second win of the season last weekend when defeating Norwich at Carrow Road, while Newcastle were held at home by Leeds.

Saturday’s match, which takes place at the Vicarage Road, kicks off at 3pm.

Watford v Newcastle match odds

Although Watford were sent spinning out of the League Cup when defeated 3-1 by Stoke at home on Tuesday, the Hornets have won 13 of their last 15 league games at Vicarage Road.

They did, however, also lose their last match at home, going down 2-0 to Wolves.

Watford have not lost back-to-back home league games since November 2019, and they are 11/8 to beat a struggling Newcastle side.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was already under fire from frustrated fans before the start of the season. Disenchantment over the Magpies’ stuttering start to the Premier League season will only have intensified the pressure on the manager, who has seen his side pick up just two points from home draws with Southampton and Leeds.

Defeats by West Ham, Manchester United and Aston Villa have left Newcastle in the bottom three and they are 21/10 to avoid the ignominy of becoming the first side to fail to win any of their first six top-flight games for the sixth time.

In fairness, Bruce has had a few notable injuries to contend with, although goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is back in training.

Having won 2-0 at Fulham on the final day of last season, Newcastle have not won consecutive Premier League matches against newly -promoted sides since November 2015.

These teams have drawn twice in their last four clashes and the draw is on offer at 23/10.

Watford v Newcastle head-to-head

Vicarage Road is not high on the list of places Newcastle fans would hope to pick up a much-needed victory.

The Magpies have won just one of their last nine away league games against Watford (D4 L4), and they have never won a top-flight match at Vicarage Road.

Indeed, Watford have won five of their 12 Premier League meetings with Newcastle (D4 L3) and their 19 points against the Magpies is more than they have earned against any other opponent in the Premier League. Watford are 4/11 to win or draw the game on the Double Chance market.

Watford have won seven of the last 10 clashes in all competitions, including last season’s 2-1 home win.

Six of their last eight Premier League meetings saw both sides find the net and it is 3/4 in the Watford v Newcastle betting tips that they do so on Saturday.

Watford v Newcastle key battles

Ismaila Sarr scored two second-half goals at Norwich last week and is Watford’s top scorer with three. He is also a creator of chances and he has recorded the most shots this season with 13.

Sarr is a handful and is 21/10 to score at any time, but how the Watford defence handles Allan Saint-Maximin could be crucial to the outcome.

The tricky Newcastle man has scored twice and provided an assist in his last three starts and is 12/5 in the Watford v Newcastle betting tips to score at any point.
