Man Utd v West Ham betting tips: Hammers in revenge bid

| 20.09.2021

Preview and odds for Wednesday’s League Cup clash

Manchester United face West Ham for the second time in four days as they square off in the League Cup, and we look at the odds for some Man Utd v West Ham betting tips.

Man Utd won a crucial Premier League game at the London Stadium on Sunday and the Hammers will be out to avenge that defeat.

Wednesday’s match, which takes place at Old Trafford, is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 7.45pm.

Man Utd v West Ham match odds

Man Utd ended West Ham’s unbeaten record in the Premier League on Sunday with a 2-1 win that was perhaps a little flattering to the east London side.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the fourth time in three games but for once the headlines were not about the Portuguese’s exploits.

West Ham will rue their luck that substitute Jesse Lingard, a player who excelled on loan for them last season, hit a dramatic late winner to seal the points.

Yet had it not been for David de Gea’s fine save from a poor Mark Noble penalty in the last minute – it was Noble’s first kick after coming on as a substitute – the Red Devils would not have successfully bounced back from last Tuesday’s Champions League defeat by Young Boys.

United are 1/2 to win in 90 minutes and reach the fourth round. Seven of their last 18 meetings in all competitions ended in draws – including last season’s FA Cup fifth-round tie, which United won 1-0 in extra-time – and the draw is available at 16/5.

West Ham, who played and won their first meaningful game in Europe for 15 years on Thursday, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 in Croatia, are 11/2 to win at Old Trafford.

Man Utd v West Ham head-to-head

West Ham have won just three of the last 26 meetings with the Red Devils in all competitions and lost the last four, which included two 1-0 defeats at Old Trafford last season in the Premier League and FA Cup (after extra time).

West Ham are 31/20 to win or draw the game on the Double Chance market in the Man Utd v West Ham betting tips.

Six of the last 11 meetings saw one or other team fail to score and it is 10/11 that one or other fails to net on Wednesday.

United last won four consecutive meetings against the Hammers between May 2008 and August 2010 (when they racked up six successive victories), but the visitors have managed to score at least once in five of the last eight meetings and it is 11/5 for Manchester United to win but concede.

Man Utd v West Ham key battles

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to rest a few key players ahead of a Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime followed by a crucial Champions League fixture with Villarreal next Wednesday.

West Ham could face Lingard again. He scored nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances on loan from Man Utd last season and after netting Sunday’s winner, it is 15/8 that he scores at any time.

Noble will likely get a chance to redeem himself, as he is expected to be in the line-up from the start and is 8/1 to score at any time.
