Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips: Red Devils look hot in Bern
Preview and odds for Tuesday’s Champions League clash
Manchester United begin their quest for a fourth Champions League title and we have studied the odds to bring you some Young Boys v Man Utd betting tips.
Young Boys were runaway champions of Switzerland last season and had to come through a qualifying phase to reach the group stage while Premier League and Europa League runners-up Manchester United qualified automatically.
The game takes place at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, Switzerland, on Tuesday and is live on BT Sport 2, with a 5.45pm BST kick-off.
Young Boys v Man Utd match odds
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side warmed up for this clash with a 4-1 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday and they now sit top of the Premier League table after four games.
United have lost their first match in just one of their last 21 Champions League campaigns (W13 D7), going down 2-1 to PSV in the 2015-16 season under Louis van Gaal.
However, although they have won four of their 10 Champions League games under Solskjaer, they have lost six – as many as they did in 20 matches in the competition under Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho combined (W10 D4 L6).
They have not had a Champions League draw in their last 10 games but that is available at 18/5.
United will hope to get into the knockout stage from a group that also includes Atalanta and Villarreal, to whom they lost 11-10 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in last season’s Europa League final.
David Wagner (pictured below) took over Young Boys in the summer but under the former Huddersfield and Schalke boss, they have made an indifferent start to their domestic campaign.
Defensively, Young Boys have looked far from solid and have conceded at least once in nine of their last 11 competitive games.
Wagner faced United four times in all competitions as Huddersfield manager, winning one and losing three, and Young Boys are 13/2 to triumph in this game.
Young Boys v Man Utd head-to-head
Young Boys have lost their previous two Champions League matches against Manchester United – both in the 2018 group phase – going down 1-0 at Old Trafford and 3-0 in Bern. It is 6/4 United win to nil.
In all European competition, Young Boys have only won one of their eight matches against English opponents (D1 L6), beating Spurs 3-2 in the 2010 Champions League qualifying play-offs. They lost the second leg 4-0.
They are 3/5 to score at least once against United, who have won half of their Champions League matches against Swiss opponents (W4 D2 L2).
Young Boys v Man Utd key battles
United’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading Champions League scorer with 134 goals, 15 of which were scored in his first spell with the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009.
He has not appeared for United in this competition for 12 years but he will be the focus for Wagner’s defence.
