2020 US Masters: Who are the favourites?

| 12.03.2020

Odds and preview ahead of next month’s major

The first golf major of the year tees off next month and all eyes will be on Augusta for the return of the US Masters.

The world’s best golfers will travel to Georgia to compete in one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions.

Tiger Woods will return to defend his title after a shock win last year, while Rory McIlroy is seeking a maiden championship.

And with less than a month to go, we’ve taken a look at three of the favourites to win the green jacket.

Rory McIlroy

The early favourite to win the tournament, McIlroy is arguably in the form of his career. Ranked No.1 in the world, the Northern Irishman was awarded the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2019.

So, it seems like the perfect time for him to finally complete the major championships set. McIlroy has tasted success in the PGA Championship, the US Open and the Open Championship.

Rory McIlroy

Yet the Masters has continually evaded him, with a fourth-placed finish in 2015 his best showing to date.

He tied for fifth in the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this month and he’s in good stead to carry on his form in Augusta.

Jon Rahm

A relative newbie in comparison to his contemporaries, Rahm burst onto the scene before turning professional in 2016.

The Spaniard has progressed steadily ever since and an impressive 2019 has him second in the world rankings.

Rahm is yet to win a major, with his fourth-placed finish at the 2018 Masters his best showing to date.

But at 25-years-old, age is on his side and an extra year of experience should see him improve on last year’s ninth-place finish, particularly following a sharp looking outing in Mexico in February.

Tiger Woods

Tiger returns to Augusta this year looking to equal Jack Nicklaus’ record of six Masters wins.

The American capped an extraordinary comeback to win last year’s tournament, 14 years after winning his last one.

Woods hadn’t tasted victory in a major since his US Open win in 2008 and he’ll be determined to prove he’s back to his best again this year.

Before his return to form, the 44-year-old had slipped down to 1,199th in the official world rankings.

Now back up to 11th, he’ll fancy his chances of breaking into the top 10 back on home soil.

To win the US Masters:

Rory McIlroy 13/2

Jon Rahm 10/1

Tiger Woods 14/1

Justin Thomas 14/1

Brooks Koepka 16/1

Dustin Johnson 16/1

Xander Schauffele 20/1

Hideki Matsuyama 25/1

Patrick Reed 25/1
